The cluster is in the Lepontine Alps on the upper Val Cavargna, with steep wooded slopes and pasture above the village. Lake Lugano lies about 10 km away at Porlezza. The area is close to the Swiss border. The nearest ski area is at Carlazzo-Pian delle Betulle, reached by mountain road in roughly 35–45 minutes, with larger lifts farther away in Valsassina and the central Alps. Porlezza is the nearest town of some size, with day-to-day services on the lake shore. This part of the Como mountains is known for alpine pasture, chestnut woods, small stone villages and hiking routes on the ridge between Val Cavargna and the Ceresio basin.
