The cluster sits on the lower slopes above the Tyrrhenian coast of the Riviera dei Cedri, with the Coastal Range of north-west Calabria immediately inland. The Lao river valley is nearby, and the area around Orsomarso and Papasidero falls within the Pollino National Park. The coast at Scalea is close by, while the inland landscape quickly becomes wooded and broken by ravines and limestone hills. The nearest town of size is Scalea, which has rail access, beaches and the main services for this stretch of coast. The area is known for cedar cultivation on the coastal belt and for the Lao valley's outdoor sports, especially rafting upstream around Papasidero.
