The cluster is on the Ionian coastal plain at the foot of the Sila. The Ionian Sea is at the door, with a long low coastline and beach stretches around Schiavonea and the Rossano side. The Sila foothills rise inland, and the Sila National Park begins farther up the massif beyond the immediate plain. Corigliano-Rossano is itself the nearest large town, with a substantial built-up area, services, rail links and the historic centres of Corigliano and Rossano on separate hill positions above the coast; the Codex Purpureus Rossanensis is the best-known cultural asset of the town. The area is known for clementine and olive cultivation on the plain.
