The cluster is in the Pollino massif, with Monte Pollino and Serra Dolcedorme in the wider mountain area, and inside Pollino National Park. The Lao valley is nearby, and this part of the park is known for high limestone mountains, forest and the loricate pine. The nearest ski slopes are at Campotenese, a short drive from Mormanno. Scalea on the Tyrrhenian coast is the nearest sizeable coastal town for services, while Castrovillari is the main inland town of size with hospitals, larger shops and administration. Morano Calabro, nearby within the Pollino area, is listed among I Borghi più belli d'Italia.
