The Ionian coast is close, with sandy shoreline and beach settlements around Schiavonea. The nearest large town is the Corigliano-Rossano urban area itself, which has full services, a port, rail links, and major retail and administrative functions for this part of the coast. Rossano is known for its historic hilltop old town and for the Codex Purpureus Rossanensis, part of UNESCO's Memory of the World register. The wider area is known for clementines and olive production.
