The cluster sits in the plain and low hills between the Ionian coastal strip and the foothills of the Pollino massif. The Sibari plain is the immediate landscape, with cultivated flat land and scattered settlements, and the Ionian coast is nearby. The Pollino range rises inland within this radius, and the southern edge of Pollino National Park is close to Cassano all'Ionio. The nearest substantial town is Castrovillari, which has the main services for this inland part of northern Calabria. Sibari is nearby and the area is known for the archaeological remains of ancient Sybaris and for citrus and olive cultivation on the plain.
