The area is on the Ionian coast of Calabria, with long low beaches and the plain at the mouth of the Crati valley. The Pollino massif rises inland to the northwest, and the edge of Pollino National Park is within roughly this inland belt. The nearest substantial town is Corigliano-Rossano to the north, with full services, rail links and a larger commercial area. Sibari is nearby on the coastal plain and the area is known for the archaeological remains of ancient Sybaris and for citrus and olive cultivation on the plain.
