The cluster lies in the lower Crati valley, with farmed hills and a broad river plain around it. The Crati river runs through this part of the province. The Pollino massif is the main mountain presence to the north, but it is outside the immediate 15 km landscape. The nearest large town is Cosenza, which has the provincial services, rail connections and a substantial historic centre. This part of Calabria is known for olives, grain and mixed inland agriculture.
