The cluster is on the Ionian coast of Calabria, with the Gulf of Taranto directly on the shoreline. Cariati has a walled historic centre on a hill just above the sea and a marina on the coast. The nearest larger town is Corigliano-Rossano, which provides the main rail connections, larger retail and hospital services for this stretch of coast.
