This is the Po plain on the River Po, with levees, fields, irrigation channels and scattered riverside settlements. Sabbioneta lies nearby and is a UNESCO World Heritage site as a planned Renaissance town with ducal walls, a theatre and a regular street grid. Casalmaggiore itself is the nearest town of size, with services, shops and a working historic centre on the Po. The area is known for agriculture in the lower Po valley and for the network of small historic centres between the Lombard and Mantuan plain.
