The Capo Rizzuto Marine Protected Area begins south of the city, with rocky coast, coves and clear water around Le Castella within about 15 km. Crotone is a city with a port, seafront, services and the remains of the Greek Hera Lacinia sanctuary at Capo Colonna just south of the built-up area.
