The cluster is in the Sila plateau area, with the Sila Piccola and the wooded uplands around Villaggio Palumbo within the local landscape. Lake Ampollino lies nearby on the plateau. Much of the surrounding upland falls within Sila National Park. The nearest ski lifts are at Villaggio Palumbo on Lake Ampollino, roughly a 20–30 minute drive from Cotronei. The main town of size in the wider area is Crotone on the Ionian coast, while inland San Giovanni in Fiore is the main Sila centre with everyday services. This part of Calabria is known for forested highland scenery, reservoir lakes, summer outdoor tourism and winter snow on the Sila.
