The area lies on the Ionian side of Calabria in the low hills and coastal plain inland from Capo Rizzuto. The Ionian Sea is nearby, and within this stretch of coast is the Capo Rizzuto Marine Protected Area, with long open shoreline, rocky sections and sandy beaches around Le Castella and Capo Rizzuto. Le Castella has the Aragonese castle on the sea. Crotone is the nearest town of size, with port services, shops and the main urban facilities of the area. This part of the Crotonese is known for olive groves, arable farmland and the exposed Ionian coast.
