The cluster is in the Sila plateau, with wooded uplands and reservoir landscapes around Lake Ampollino and Lake Arvo within the wider area of the Sila. Part of this area falls within Sila National Park. The nearest ski lifts are those of Lorica on Lake Arvo and Villaggio Palumbo on Lake Ampollino, both roughly within a 30–45 minute drive depending on the exact starting point. Cotronei is the nearest small service town; for a larger centre with more shops and services, Crotone on the Ionian coast is the main reference. The area is known for pine and beech forests, upland lakes, summer tourism and winter snow on the Sila.
