The cluster is in the upper Varaita Valley under the Cottian Alps. The Varaita river runs through the valley. The Monviso area is nearby, with Monte Bracco on the lower side of the valley and the high valley rising toward the Monviso massif. The Parco del Monviso covers the upper valley. Ski lifts are at Sampeyre in the same valley, about 15 minutes by road, with larger lifts farther up the valley at Pontechianale. Saluzzo is the nearest substantial town, with a walled historic centre and services, about 25 minutes away. The area is known for alpine valley settlements, chestnut woods lower down and high pastures higher up, and for Occitan culture in the Varaita valleys.
