The Ligurian Alps rise immediately around Roccaforte Mondovì, with the Monregalese valleys leading toward the Marguareis massif. The Ellero torrent runs through the area, and the upper valleys are karst country with caves around the Bossea area. The Parco naturale del Marguareis lies within this mountain zone. The nearest ski lifts are the small lifts at Lurisia and the larger Mondolè system around Frabosa Soprana, Prato Nevoso and Artesina, reached in roughly 20–35 minutes by road depending on the base station. Mondovì is the nearest town of size, with a hilltop historic centre, services and rail connections. The wider area is known for alpine valleys, limestone massifs, caves and winter sports.
