The cluster is in the Varaita valley of the Cottian Alps, with mountain slopes rising directly above the settlements and high passes toward the French border farther up the valley. The Varaita river runs through the valley floor. This is part of the Valle Varaita mountain area, known for Occitan culture and for stone-and-slate alpine villages. The nearest ski area is Sampeyre itself at Sant'Anna, with lifts a short drive above the main settlement when operating. Saluzzo is the nearest larger town used for services, and Cuneo is the nearest provincial city with the fuller range of shops, hospital and rail connections.
