The cluster is at the foot of the Cottian Alps, with Monte Bracco directly above Barge and the upper Po valley opening west toward Paesana and Crissolo. The Po rises at Pian del Re on Monviso, and Monviso is the dominant mountain of this part of the province; from Barge the high valley and the mountain massif are within the local 15 km landscape. The Monviso area is protected by the Parco del Monviso and includes the Monviso UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The nearest substantial town is Saluzzo, which has a preserved historic centre and services; Cuneo and the Turin plain are farther east. This area is known for the upper Po valley, views toward Monviso, and the stone quarrying around Monte Bracco.
