The Maritime Alps rise immediately around Vernante, and the village sits in the Vermenagna valley on the road toward the Colle di Tenda. The Parco naturale delle Alpi Marittime is within the local area, with alpine valleys, larch woods and high peaks close by. Limone Piemonte is the nearest mountain town of size, with rail access, services and ski lifts; the Riserva Bianca lifts are roughly a 15 minute drive. Cuneo is the nearest larger town, with full shopping, hospitals and rail connections, about half an hour away. The area is known for alpine walking, road access into the Tenda corridor, and for Vernante’s association with Pinocchio murals and the illustrator Attilio Mussino.
