The cluster is in the Stura di Demonte valley under the Maritime Alps, with high alpine relief immediately around the town. The Stura di Demonte river runs through the valley. Much of the upper valley falls within the Parco Naturale delle Alpi Marittime and the Mercantour-Alpi Marittime cross-border protected area. The nearest ski terrain is at Limone Piemonte, roughly an hour by road, with other small valley ski stations in the upper Cuneo Alps. Cuneo is the nearest town of size, with full services, a rail station and a substantial historic centre. The area is known for fortified alpine villages and military roads in the upper Valle Stura, and for access toward the Colle della Maddalena on the French border.
