The cluster sits on the plain and low rolling farmland of the Tanaro basin, with the Langhe hills beginning a short distance to the east and south. The Tanaro river runs nearby, and this part of the province is a mosaic of fields, small woods and villages rather than a mountain valley. The Maritime and Ligurian Alps are visible farther south on clear days but they are outside the immediate landscape. The nearest town of size is Fossano, which has a substantial historic centre and services; Cuneo and Alba are farther off for a wider range of shops and transport. Bene Vagienna is known for the Roman archaeological area of Augusta Bagiennorum just outside the town.
