The cluster is in the upper Valle Maira in the Cottian Alps, with high alpine slopes and side valleys immediately around it. The Maira river runs through the valley. Much of the surrounding high ground falls within the Parco naturale delle Alpi Marittime system and the wider alpine protected area on the French border. This is a base for mountain roads and passes including the Colle della Maddalena area toward France. The nearest substantial services are down-valley at Dronero, while Cuneo is the nearest city of size with full services. The area is known for hiking, small alpine hamlets and Occitan culture in Valle Maira.
