The cluster sits at the foot of the Maritime Alps in the open plain just south-west of Cuneo. The Stura di Demonte runs through this part of the province, and the lower Valle Stura begins within a few kilometres to the west. The Parco naturale delle Alpi Marittime is in the mountains above Valdieri and Entracque, roughly within the wider 15 km radius from here. The nearest ski lifts are the small local areas in the valleys above Borgo San Dalmazzo and Demonte, with larger skiing farther away in the province. Cuneo is the nearest town of size and has the main services, rail connections and a substantial historic centre laid out on its wedge-shaped plateau. This area is known for mixed farming on the plain and as the gateway from Cuneo into the Alpine valleys toward the French border.
