The area touches the Parco naturale delle Alpi Liguri. The nearest ski terrain is at Garessio 2000, roughly half an hour by road, with the larger Mondolè ski area around Artesina and Prato Nevoso farther away. Ormea itself is a small mountain town with an arcaded centre and basic services, while Ceva is the nearest larger town for wider shopping and rail connections. This part of the upper Tanaro is known for mountain pasture, chestnut woods and road links over the Ligurian passes toward the coast.
