Marene sits on the plain between Savigliano and Bra, in the agricultural lowland of the Cuneo province. The Stura di Demonte and Tanaro river systems shape the wider plain nearby, but this immediate area is mainly fields, farm roads and small settlements. The Langhe hills begin not far to the east around Bra and Cherasco, and the Alpine chain is visible to the west in clear weather, but they are outside or at the edge of the everyday 15 km landscape. The nearest town of size is Savigliano, which has a substantial historic centre, services and rail connections; Bra is also close and is known for food culture and as the home area of Slow Food. This part of the province is known for mixed farming and for being close to the transition between the Po plain and the wine hills of southern Piedmont.
