The Parco naturale delle Alpi Liguri lies just to the south, and the Marguareis massif and Monte Antoroto are the main nearby mountain features. The nearest ski area is Garessio 2000, about 20 km away by road, with other small Alpine lifts farther west toward the Cuneo valleys. Ormea has a substantial historic centre for its size, with everyday services and road links down the Tanaro valley toward Ceva and the Ligurian side. This part of the upper Tanaro is known for mountain pasture, chestnut and beech woods, and road and hiking routes between Piedmont and western Liguria.
