Around this part of south-eastern Alessandria the landscape is mostly a low mountain valley of woods, pasture and scattered hamlets rather than a plain. Arquata Scrivia and the Scrivia corridor are the nearest larger centres, with everyday services and rail links toward Genoa and Piedmont. The area is known locally for the Val Borbera and for summer use of the river stretches.
