The cluster sits in the inland Erei hills of central Sicily, in a landscape of cultivated hills, grain fields, olive groves and erosion-cut valleys. The Dittaino valley is the main lower ground nearby, and Lake Nicoletti lies a few kilometres west of Leonforte. Enna is the nearest town of size, with the hilltop historic centre, the Lombard-era castle area and the usual provincial services. This part of inland Sicily is known for cereal farming and hill towns rather than for a single protected or nationally distinctive landscape.
