This is inland central Sicily in the Erei hills, with a landscape of rolling clay and grain country broken by low ridges and ravines. The nearest larger town is Enna, which has a substantial historic centre and services, and Caltanissetta is also within normal driving distance for higher-order services. Piazza Armerina lies nearby and is known for the Roman Villa del Casale, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, though the villa is outside the immediate 15 km landscape. The area is known for cereal farming, olive groves and sulphur-mining country typical of the interior of Sicily.
