The nearest skiing is at Piano Battaglia in the Madonie, roughly 1 hour 30 minutes by road, which is outside the local landscape. Nicosia itself is the main town nearby, with a large historic center, cathedral, hospital and everyday services for the surrounding inland area. The area is known for inland Sicilian hill country, cereals, livestock and mountain cheeses.
