The area lies on the eastern edge of Monti Sibillini National Park. Sarnano has the nearest ski lifts, about 20–30 minutes by road, and the Sassotetto area is the local winter sports base. Amandola itself is the main small service town for this side of the mountains; farther out, Fermo and Ascoli Piceno are the nearest larger historic towns. The wider area is known for mountain walking, beech woods, high meadows and the Sibillini pastoral landscape.
