The area is a belt of cultivated hills in the Valdaso hinterland between the lower Tenna and Aso valleys. The Adriatic coast is beyond the hill country, with Porto San Giorgio and Fermo the nearest larger centres for daily services. Fermo has a substantial historic centre on its hill and the usual full range of schools, shops, hospital and offices of a provincial town. To the west the Sibillini range is visible in clear weather but it lies well beyond the immediate 15 km landscape. This part of southern Marche is known for mixed farming, vineyards and olive groves, with small hill towns set along the ridges.
