The Po Delta surrounds this area, with branches and canals of the lower Po close by. The Parco regionale del Delta del Po is here, and the Bosco della Mesola is one of the notable remaining lowland woods in the delta. The Adriatic coast at the Lidi di Comacchio is nearby but outside the immediate inland setting. Mesola is known for the Este Castle and for the reclaimed delta landscape of embankments, fields, wetlands and fishing valleys.
