The cluster is in the built-up area of Ferrara, so the setting is the Po plain: flat agricultural land cut by canals and branches of the Po system, with the Po di Volano and the lower Po landscape in the wider surroundings. Ferrara itself is the nearest town of size and has a large brick historic centre with the Este Castle and Renaissance walls; the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the Renaissance city and the Po Delta cultural landscape. The Po Delta Regional Park lies to the east, but its core landscapes are outside the immediate 15 km radius. The area is known for irrigated agriculture and for Ferrara’s Renaissance urban history.
