This is the eastern Bolognese plain in the lower Po Valley, with flat agricultural land, drainage canals and scattered hamlets. The Reno valley and the Valli di Campotto wetlands are nearby on the plain, with reedbeds and restored freshwater habitats around Argenta. Molinella is the nearest town of size for daily services; for a larger urban centre Bologna is the main reference, with rail links, hospitals, universities and a major historic centre, but it is outside the immediate landscape. The area is known for arable farming and reclaimed lowland countryside.
