The cluster is in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. The Santerno valley runs through Firenzuola and the ridge line toward Monte Beni and the Giogo and Futa passes is close by. Part of the territory lies inside the Parco regionale della Vena del Gesso Romagnola, known for its gypsum ridge and cave system. The nearest ski area is Monte Faggiola above the Firenzuola area, with larger lifts on the Corno alle Scale side at roughly an hour's drive. Firenzuola is a small mountain town with everyday services, and Borgo San Lorenzo and Imola are the nearest larger centres for broader shopping and rail links. The area is known for pietra serena sandstone and for Apennine pasture, woods and ridge roads.
