The cluster is in the Mugello basin, with the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines close to the north and east. The Sieve river runs through Borgo San Lorenzo and the area is part of the upper Sieve valley. The Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna National Park begins farther east on the Apennine side, outside the immediate basin. The nearest ski area is Monte Falco-Campigna on the Muraglione side, roughly 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes by road depending on the exact starting point. Borgo San Lorenzo is the main service centre of Mugello, with rail links toward Florence, shops, schools and the hospital; Florence is the nearest major city for higher-level services and work. The wider area is known for the Mugello landscape of cultivated valley floor, wooded slopes and Apennine passes, and for Mugello Circuit at Scarperia.
