The cluster sits in the Valdarno, the Arno river corridor between Florence and Arezzo, with low hills of vineyards, olive groves and mixed woodland on both sides of the valley. The Pratomagno ridge rises east of the valley within this radius and is the main mountain backdrop here. The Arno is the named river of the area. To the west, the Chianti hills begin within short range, with wine country and scattered stone hamlets. The nearest larger city is Florence, which provides the main rail connections, airports and major services, but it lies outside the immediate 15 km landscape. The area is known for wine and olive oil production and for the Valdarno setting used in the background of Leonardo da Vinci landscapes.
