This cluster lies inside the built-up area of Florence, in the Arno valley between the hills around Fiesole and Settignano to the north-east and the Chianti foothills to the south. The Arno crosses the city. Florence is a major regional city with a large historic centre, museums, universities, a main rail hub and the principal airport for inland Tuscany. The historic centre of Florence is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is known for Renaissance urban heritage rather than for a rural or natural landscape within the immediate 15 km radius.
