The area lies on the Florentine plain along the Bisenzio and close to the Arno basin, with flat urbanised land and fragmented farmland at the foot of the Monte Morello hills to the north. Florence is the nearest major city and provides the full range of services, monuments, rail connections and airport access. Prato is also nearby and is known for its textile district. This part of the plain is shaped more by roads, industry, warehouses and suburban development than by a distinct rural or natural landscape.
