Part of the territory falls in the Parco nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna on the Tuscan side of the range. The nearest ski area is Monte Faggiola above the Firenzuola-Piancaldoli side, with larger lifts at the Abetone area roughly 1.5 hours away. Borgo San Lorenzo and Imola are the nearest larger towns for fuller services; Florence and Bologna are both reachable for higher-order services but are outside the local landscape. The area is known for pietra serena sandstone and for mountain villages and passes on the road between Florence and Bologna.
