The cluster is on the north-west side of the Pratomagno range, with wooded slopes and olive-growing hills above the upper Valdarno. The Arno runs through the wider valley below. Part of the territory falls within the Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna National Park, and the Vallombrosa forest and abbey area is one of the best-known local landscapes. The nearest town of size is Figline Valdarno in the valley, with rail services and everyday shops and services; Florence is the main city for higher-order services. The area is known for olive oil and for the Vallombrosa abbey and forest.
