Rustico in Empoli

The area sits in the lower Arno valley, with the Arno as the main river and a mixed landscape of plain, cultivated fields and low hills. To the south and east are the first hills of the Empolese and the Montalbano area, with vineyards, olive groves and scattered farmhouses rather than a single dramatic landform. Florence is the nearest major city and provides the full range of services, rail connections and monuments. Within this radius the landscape is that of ordinary settled Tuscan countryside rather than a protected or singular natural setting. The historic core of Empoli is a normal working town centre, and the area is known above all for agriculture and for being a transport and service node in the Arno corridor.
