The Chianti Hills are the immediate landscape here, with wooded ridges, vineyards and olive groves between Greve, Panzano and the upper Val di Greve. The Greve river runs through the local valley. Much of the area falls within the Chianti Classico wine zone, and it is known for wine estates, olive oil and small stone villages. Greve in Chianti has a substantial historic centre with its arcaded main square and everyday services; Panzano is nearby on the ridge. The nearest city of size is Florence, reachable for work and services but outside the local 15 km landscape. Part of the municipality is included in the Chianti Fiorentino protected landscape area.
