This is the hill country between the Valdelsa and the upper Val d’Elsa, with cultivated ridges, woods and scattered hamlets. The Egola and Elsa river valleys are the main nearby watercourses. The area is close to the ridge of San Vivaldo and the woods around the Jerusalem of Tuscany complex. Castelfalfi is nearby, a restored hill hamlet set among golf course, woodland and farmland. The nearest towns of size are Castelfiorentino, Empoli and San Miniato, which provide rail links, shops and services; San Gimignano is also nearby and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but outside the immediate 15 km landscape from the cluster. The area is known for vineyards, olive groves, truffles and mixed wooded farmland typical of inland central Tuscany.
