The cluster is on the Gargano promontory on the Adriatic coast. It lies by the sea at Vieste, with limestone cliffs, small coves and long sandy beaches around the town. Much of the surrounding inland area falls within Gargano National Park, with pine woods and Mediterranean scrub, and the Umbra Forest is nearby. The nearest town of size within this part of the promontory is Manfredonia, while Vieste itself has a substantial old centre on a rock above the sea and a working harbour. The area is known for the Gargano coast and the sea stacks and cliff shoreline around Vieste.
