Torremaggiore sits on the north Apulian plain at the foot of the first Subappennino Dauno hills. The Fortore river runs to the north of the town. The nearest larger centre is San Severo, which has rail connections and the main services of the area. Lucera, with its historic centre and the Swabian-Angevin fortress, is within the wider plain but outside the immediate surroundings. This part of the province is known for arable farming and olive groves.
