The cluster lies on the Gargano massif. The Gargano National Park is within the area around San Marco in Lamis, with a limestone upland of woods, karst and ravines, and the edge of the Tavoliere plain opening to the south. Monte Sant'Angelo is the nearest larger historic centre of note on the mountain, and San Giovanni Rotondo is nearby with its major pilgrimage complex. This part of inland Gargano is known for the Foresta Umbra farther east on the massif, for pilgrimage routes and sanctuaries, and for the transition from the Apulian plain to the Gargano uplands.
