Location score 86/100The cluster is on the Gargano promontory, with limestone uplands and forested slopes of the Foresta Umbra within about 15 km. The Adriatic coast is directly below Monte Sant'Angelo, with the Gulf of Manfredonia to the south and cliff sections and small coves along this side of Gargano. Part of the area falls within Gargano National Park. The nearest ski area is at Vico del Gargano in winter-use seasons, but the local landscape is defined far more by the coastal escarpment and the wooded plateau. Monte Sant'Angelo itself is a substantial hill town with the Sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the town is also listed among I Borghi più belli d'Italia. The area is known for the pilgrimage sanctuary, for Gargano's limestone landscape, and for beech and oak woodland in the Umbra forest.
