This is the north Apulian plain at the edge of the Tavoliere, with cultivated flat land around the town. The Gargano promontory begins within roughly 15 km to the east, with the first limestone hills and the outer edge of Gargano National Park in daily surroundings. The Adriatic coast near Torre Mileto and Marina di Lesina lies beyond the 15 km landscape radius, so it does not define the immediate setting. San Severo is itself a substantial service town with a historic centre, rail connections, hospitals and secondary schools. The area is known above all for agriculture and for San Severo DOC wine.
